Things You Should Know Before Your First Bridal Appointment

One of the most exciting times in your life is when you get engaged! However, arranging your vendors, taking engagement photos, and making seating charts can be exhausting. Make sure not to overlook the fun aspects of planning a wedding, such as choosing the dress of your dreams. It can be a lot of fun to play dress up in beautiful gowns, but at Hoops A Daisy Bridal Boutique we know it can also be exhausting. Preparedness is key for your first bridal appointment. You can say yes to the dress without feeling overwhelmed when shopping. Here are a few things you should know before you step into a wedding dress boutique or schedule an appointment!

Create Your Timeline

It typically takes anywhere from six to eight months for a custom gown to be created - and that doesn't even include fittings after the dress arrives. There's a good chance that your wedding dress will need alterations, as wedding dress sizes are very different from street sizes. Ideally, you should give your seamstress at least two months. Overall, you should allow nine to 12 months.

Make A Budget

Dresses for weddings vary in price! You can spend a couple hundred dollars or thousands. Establish a budget before you make an appointment. You should have this conversation with whomever is paying for the dress for you beforehand, so that you are on the same page. Having your heart set on a dress that is out of your price range is one of the most disappointing experiences. Trust us, it happens more often than you might think. Your consultant will not go over budget when you set a set number.

Adding alterations, accessories, jewelry, and shoes to your budget is also important. Depending on the amount of work you need done, alterations can range from $100-$1,000.

Create a Mood Board

An exciting part of shopping for a wedding dress is making a mood board. Put all your favorite gowns on a Pinterest board. You're more likely to find a pattern in the silhouettes and fabrics you like as you add to the board!

Decide Who To Bring;

You can make or break your bridal appointment by who you bring. The temptation may be great to bring an entire entourage, but having too many opinions can make the process extremely challenging. We recommend no more than two to four people!

Consider Undergarments

The undergarments you wear under your wedding gowns are completely up to you. It is more likely than not that you will not need to wear a bra under your wedding gown, since the cup will be built into the dress. Bring some shapewear or a strapless bra just in case!
